Bikaner was a busting trade centre in the yesteryears, on account of its strategic positioning on the caravan routes that came from Africa and West Asia. Once known as Jangaldesh, it was coveted by the Gurjar, Parthiharas, Chauhans and the Bhatti clans. However, Rao Bika established a dynasty here that ruled for almost four and a half centuries.

The walled city of Bikaner stands on the northern tip of the desert triangle. It is situated on an elevated ground, surrounded by a seven km. long embattled wall marked by five gates.

Lall Garh Palace

Deep in the thar desert, behind endless waves of sand dunes lies bikaner, one othe most interesting centres of later Indian art. In this great town of red sandstone, with richly decorated houses rising high over its bustling streets, stands bhanwar Niwas, the Most Magnificent of the famed havelis belonging to the Rampuria family.

Built in the year 1902 by one of the most outstanding personalities of princely India, Maharaja Ganga Singh,the Lallgarh Place is sheer poetry in sandstone. Constructed during the last half of the Nineteenth century, it defies the bleak and rugged reality of the thar desert around Bikaner. Lallgarh places it the most completely integrated example of indo - sarcenic architecture, and as some hold, the most perfectly realized of sir Swinton Jacob's creations. The palace has played host to a number of dignitaries from all over the world.

The palace has forty lavishly furnished rooms, each having its own unique interior, reminiscent of the royal past. The hotel offers sumptuous buffets and A-LA-carte multi cuisine.
